One of
the biggest sources of marine pollution is due to something called nonpoint
pollution. This is a result of runoff waste, which includes things like septic tanks, cars, trucks, and boats.
Things like mining,
farming lands,
ranches, and forest areas are also causes for ocean pollution. Pollution
can also come from the air, it can settle into oceans and
waterways effecting fish
and wildlife environments.
Short Term effects:
Long Term Effects:
Short Term effects:
- Shortage
of oxygen in the water resulting in animal death
- Toxins
released into the ocean can harm marine life, ecosystems, and humans
- Decrease
in animal habitat
- Decrease
in natural migration patterns
- Blurry
waters so marine animals cannot escape and hunt as well
Long Term Effects:
- Fixing
pollution problems can be very costly
- Monitoring,
assessing, and limiting access to certain protected areas can be challenging
and dangerous
- Decrease
in reproduction rates
- Amount
of offspring will decline
